Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic brought devastation to communities all over the world, for many it also provided the opportunity to spend more time connecting with nature and local green spaces. We had the pleasure of speaking with 8 residents of the London Borough of Harrow who share their stories about walking, green spaces, and ways they've kept connected with people over the past year.
With climate crisis on the rise, there are suggestions that green spaces in Harrow (and more widely in urban areas) are decreasing. We know how important green spaces are to people, particularly during times of isolation, and created this project with the aim of celebrating green spaces and connecting people across the borough through their shared stories.
We held a group workshop followed by 1-to-1 interviews, where participants had the chance to reflect on the year, speaking about the green spaces they've walked in, what these spaces mean to their health and community, and sharing any stories about their relationship with green spaces across the borough.
We will be releasing audio of individual recordings over the upcoming months. For now, we hope you enjoy Harrow in Voices.
